Six friends came home from Naoshima with more photographs than any of them will ever open, and a folder that has sat there since the plane landed. Sepiava is the room they all drop them into. The book develops itself.

One link, in the group chat. Photos, a voice note on the ferry, the ticket stub, the thing somebody typed at midnight. Six phones, one room, no app to install.

Near duplicates resolved, the blurred ones held back, every contributor kept in the book. Every decision is marked in grease pencil on a contact sheet, with the reason next to it. If we are wrong, you take the pencil.

Three books. Not three thousand.
Silver, Chrome, Grain. Ranked for this room, not browsed. Pick one, or change one thing, and it goes to paper. The canvas never appears.
What compounds
A competitor can copy this screen in a weekend. They cannot copy the fact that Kei kept the blurry one.
Photographs are not a moat. Apple has more of yours than we ever will. What cannot be bought, scraped, or generated is the permissioned context around one specific relationship: which frame these six chose over its near twin, what they called the yellow one, whose story was told over which photograph, and what they crossed out.
Every time somebody overrules us on the contact sheet, the room learns something about these people that no model was trained on. Five years of that is not a feature. It is the reason they cannot leave, and the reason they would not want to.
The editions
Film stocks, not adjectives.
Under the hood there are 21,600 style recipes and 14 page archetypes, and you will never see a single one of them. A room is offered three books. Infinity should be felt as specificity, not experienced as a menu.
Silver
Silver gelatin. Quiet, archival, generous margins. The edition you keep.
Chrome
Slide film. Saturated, full bleed, loud. The edition that proves you were alive.
Grain
Pushed to 1600. High contrast, one image a page. The edition that reads like a film.
The safelight
A safelight is the only lamp that will not fog the film.
- Your memories train your room. They do not train a public model.
- We do not run face recognition. Not on by default, not as an option, not at all.
- Every frame carries the name of the person who gave it, forever.
These three lines are constants in the source, not copy on a page. If one of them ever stops being true, it has to be deleted from the code first, and that shows up in a diff.
The trip is over. The book is not going to make itself.
